Hetty Green applied this principle to bonds, railroads and real estate in the late 19th century. More than a hundred years later, it still holds: the margin lies where competition is low and information is scattered. And that is a pretty accurate description of the auction market in Spain.

Anyone who already invests in auctioned property knows this. But more and more MapaSubastas users keep asking us the same question: "What about everything else that goes up for auction?"

Auction investors don't stop at real estate

The profile is clear: someone who has already analysed dozens of listings, knows how to read a land registry extract (nota simple) and understands the difference between the starting price and the appraised value. That judgement doesn't stay in housing. It carries over to other categories.

The auction portal of Spain's Official State Gazette (BOE) isn't limited to flats, commercial premises and garages. It also lists:

• Vehicles: cars, vans, motorcycles, trucks and even entire fleets coming from seizures and liquidations.
• Movable assets: industrial machinery, furniture, jewellery, artwork, business inventory or equipment lots.

For many investors, these categories make sense for three reasons:

• Lower entry ticket: you can operate with amounts far below those needed for a property.
• Faster turnover: a vehicle or a machinery lot can be resold in weeks, not months.
• Diversification: you don't depend solely on the property cycle or on the time it takes to take possession of a home.

The problem: the information is out there, but it's hard to find

Until now, anyone wanting to look beyond real estate had to go back to the official BOE search engine: unintuitive filters, listings with no geographic context and a lot of time wasted reviewing lots one by one.
